Multimodal communication and recognition

In humans body language, gestures and facial expressions can tell someone a lot about another person beyond simply what they are saying. The same is true for other animals. Visual and olfactory information often combines with vocal signals to provide a greater amount, or more robust information to a receiver.

I’m interested in the prevalence and  evolution of multimodal communication and recognition in animals.
